TOKYO ILUSTRATORS SOCIETY PRESENTS PART 2
As a follow-up to this year’s “GINZA, Ginza, ginza” exhibition, for two successive weeks Creation Gallery G8 will mount memorial exhibitions dedicated to two TIS members who recently passed away: Yuzo Yamashita (January 2008) and Akira Mori (April 2008). The exhibitions will display their representative works and recent creations to serve as a retrospective of the careers of these two brilliant illustrators. The gallery will also host gatherings to share memories of these two departed artists. All visitors are welcome.

Yuzo Yamashita
Born in Hiroshima in 1936. In 1960, joined Light Publicity after graduating from the Design Course of Tama Art University. In 1963 he established Yuzo Yamashita Office, superseded in 1984 by Yamashita Design Studio. Yamashita’s major works include: package and advertising design and TV commercials for Kewpie Corp.; illustration for MUJI; illustrations for two works of fiction by Hisashi Inoue serialized in the Asahi Shimbun and Tokyo Shimbun newspapers; illustrations and book design for works by Jiro Akagawa, Musashi Kanbe and Yoshinori Shimizu. Among Yamashita’s many awards received during his career are the Mainichi Advertising Award (1958, 1959), Asahi Advertising Award (1968), and Kodansha Publishing Culture Award (for book illustration) (1997). He wrote or co-wrote a number of books. Yuzo Yamashita passed away from upper gastrointestinal bleeding on January 31, 2008, aged 71.
