EXHIBITION

Creation Kids Lab 2019

  • DATES : Mon. August 19 - Wed. August 21, 2019
  • HOURS : 10:30a.m. - 1:00p.m. / 2:30p.m.-5:00p.m.

Creation Gallery G8 has been operated by Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. in the Ginza area of Tokyo since 1985, as part of its social contribution activities. Gallery exhibitions focus on graphic design, with the aims, through design, of enriching people’s lives and serving as a venue for encounters of all kinds.

Following the inaugural program conducted last year, this summer the gallery will again host a series of workshops for young children: “Creation Kids Lab 2019.” This year’s theme will be the “furoshiki,” the quintessential Japanese wrapping cloth with a long and rich history of usage in Japan. The workshops will cover three interrelated aspects of the furoshiki on separate days: designing, dyeing and wrapping.

What is perhaps the furoshiki’s greatest appeal is its simplicity: a square piece of cloth that invites unlimited ideas and endless possibilities for using it. Through the workshops, we hope to provide children with an opportunity to experience, together with their instructor, the fun of learning, discovery and creation.

August 21 (Wed): “Let’s Tie and Wrap with a Furoshiki”

Instructors: Mamiko Harano and Miyuki Sato (Furoshiki Study Group)

The Furoshiki Study Group is a nonprofit organization established in Kyoto in 1992. Members undertake diverse activities focused on proposing new ways of wrapping with furoshiki cloth, with two principal aims: to promote greater use of the furoshiki in contemporary lifestyles, and to pass this knowledge on to the next generation. The organization, whose membership numbers approximately 220 (as of January 2018), conducts many different courses dealing with furoshiki.
