Shinya Nakajima is a commercial director garnering great attention for his numerous popular commercials, including “hungry?” for Nissin Foods (Cup Noodle), “DAKARA” and “Iyemon Green Tea” for Suntory, and corporate ads for Shiseido. He says that what’s important is to make commercials fun for the viewer. In the space of 15 or 30 seconds, he creates commercials overflowing with entertainment value, at times humorous, at other times dramatic.
This exhibition at Creation Gallery G8 will highlight roughly 300 storyboards drawn by Mr. Nakajima for many of the more than 500 commercials he has created since his debut as a commercial director in 1983. They have served as his blueprints for his finished works.
Visitors will enjoy seeing the original forms behind many successful commercials they are familiar with. The exhibition will provide a rare opportunity to see storyboards normally not made public. It offers a valuable opportunity to aspiring commercial creators, people now involved in commercial creation, and anybody who just enjoys or has an interest in commercials.
Born in Fukuoka in 1959, raised in Osaka. In 1982, upon graduation from Musashino Art University’s Department of Visual Communication Design, College of Art and Design, Mr. Nakajima joined Tohokushinsha Film Corporation (TFC). The following year, he debuted as a commercial producer. His representative works include Nissin Foods’ “hungry?”, Suntory’s “Iyemon Green Tea,” and NTT docomo’s series featuring Ken Watanabe, Maki Horikita and Keisuke Kuwata.
