The Tokyo Illustrators Society Presents

Illustrations of “Aesop’s Fables” by 182 Illustrators

  • DATES : Mon. August 23 - Fri. September 17, 2010
  • HOURS : 11:00 a.m.* – 7:00 p.m. Closed Sundays and holidays. Admission free.

The gallery is pleased to host the 16th exhibition of works by members of the Tokyo Illustrators Society (TIS). For this year’s exhibition TIS members were asked to create illustrations of tales from “Aesop’s Fables.” Works by 182 artists will be on display. “Aesop’s Fables” are replete with irony, rich in wit, and at times intended to teach their readers moral lessons. Together they perhaps provide ideal commentary on the chaotic world we live in today. We eagerly invite visitors to come and see how the 182 illustrators approached this thought-provoking topic. The illustrations will be augmented by descriptions of the various tales, and as always they will be available for purchase.

Tokyo Illustrators Society
The Tokyo Illustrators Society (TIS) was established in October 1988 to promote exchanges of information and ties of friendship between illustrators and to foster collective strength to promote social recognition of the profession of the illustrator. As of June 2010, society membership stands at 212. To pursue and promote further possibilities in illustration, TIS actively engages in activities including sponsorship of exhibitions, organization of open competitions to cultivate future illustrators, publishing and study seminars.
