176 Works Freely Created by 176 Illustrators
Last year the Tokyo Illustrators Society (TIS) celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding in 1988 by Japan’s leading illustrators. To mark the occasion, a new TIS logomark was adopted. For this year’s annual exhibition of works by TIS members, 176 illustrators were asked to create illustrations on any topic, using any technique they desired. Visitors will surely enjoy seeing how today’s top illustrators are launching TIS’s second quarter-century of creative adventure.

Sale of Works on Opening Day
Anyone interested in making a purchase is invited to participate in a drawing by lots. Lots will be distributed in the gallery between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. on opening day, September 16 (Tue). The drawing will commence at 11:30 a.m. to determine the order of purchasers, and purchasers will then select their purchases in that order.
*Visitors to the gallery after 11:30 a.m. on September 16 will need to wait until all participants in the drawing of lots have made their desired purchases. Works not yet purchased will then be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
*Participants in the drawing of lots will each receive only one lot. Reservations for lots by telephone will not be accepted. Each lot can be used to purchase one item only.
Tokyo Illustrators Society
The Tokyo Illustrators Society (TIS) was established in October 1988 to promote exchanges of information and ties of friendship between illustrators and to foster collective strength to promote social recognition of the profession of the illustrator. As of June 2014, society membership stands at 218. To pursue and promote further possibilities in illustration, TIS actively engages in activities including sponsorship of exhibitions, organization of open competitions to cultivate future illustrators, publishing and study seminars. TIS is currently headed by administrative director Hiroyuki Izutsu, supported by vice presidents Jun Tsuzuki and Shinbo Minami, and director Sugio Yamazaki.
