Chen Shige was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1993. He attended Taipei National University of the Arts, but graduated from Musashino Art University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting. Currently he is in the Master of Fine Arts program at the same university. He creates with a basis in mixed media, taking nourishment from the Asian climate, and making records using diverse Asian media he has experienced. He says that through these records (= art creations?) he attempts methods cut off from post-colonial art. His major exhibitions to date are “Everyday Creation 〜The hand that spins days〜” Cyg art gallery (Morioka, Iwate : 2021 scheduled), “Simple Life Work” at Gallery Cafe ULTRA (Onomichi, Hiroshima: 2020), “Korea-Japan University Art Exchange Exhibition” at Kim Jong Bok Museum of Art (Daegu, Korea: 2019), “Musasabi no Abura” at Shinbi Gallery (Tokyo: 2019), and “Ishioka Arts Festival Satoyama Art Exhibition” at Flower Park (Ishioka, Ibaraki: 2017). He won the Grand Prize at the 22nd “1_WALL” Graphics Exhibition in 2020, and the Painting Course Award at the Musashino Art University Graduation Project Exhibition in 2017. chenshige.com
